Our Mission
ScanTotal was built with a simple belief: everyone deserves access to security tools, not just tech professionals. Every day, millions of people receive suspicious links, questionable files, and scam messages. Most don't have the technical background to know whether something is safe, and they shouldn't need one.
We created ScanTotal to be the simplest, fastest way to check if something is a threat. Paste a URL, upload a file, or drop in a suspicious message, and get an instant answer. No sign-up required. No data stored. No cost.
What We Do
ScanTotal is a free, web-based security scanning platform that brings together multiple threat detection tools in one place. Our platform currently offers six core scanning capabilities:
URL Scanner checks web addresses against multiple security databases to identify phishing sites, malware distribution pages, and known scam domains. Before you click a suspicious link, check it here first.
File Scanner analyzes uploaded files for malware, viruses, trojans, and other threats. If you've downloaded something and aren't sure it's safe, our scanner can tell you before you open it.
SMS Scam Analyzer examines text messages for common scam patterns, suspicious links, and social engineering tactics. Paste any suspicious text message to get an instant analysis of whether it's legitimate or a scam attempt.
Email Analyzer checks email files (.eml) for phishing indicators, spoofed sender information, suspicious attachments, and malicious links. Upload a suspicious email to understand whether it's genuine or an attack.
QR Code Scanner decodes and analyzes QR codes to reveal where they actually lead before you scan them with your phone. This protects against "quishing": phishing attacks hidden behind QR codes.
Threat Intelligence Search lets you look up domains, IP addresses, and file hashes against security databases to check their reputation and threat history.
Our Principles
Free for everyone. All of our scanning tools are completely free to use. We believe security shouldn't be a premium feature. It should be accessible to every person on the internet, regardless of their budget or technical knowledge.
Privacy first. We don't require you to create an account, and we don't track or store your scans. When you check a URL or upload a file, we analyze it and give you results. That's it. Your data is yours.
Simplicity matters. We design our tools to be usable by anyone: your parents, your grandparents, and your non-technical friends. If a security tool is too complicated for regular people to use, it's not doing its job.
Education alongside tools. Tools are only part of the solution. That's why we maintain a blog with practical, jargon-free guides on staying safe online. Understanding threats is just as important as detecting them.
Our Technology
ScanTotal's scanning engine combines multiple threat intelligence sources and proprietary analysis to deliver accurate results. Our platform is built on Cloudflare's global edge network, ensuring fast response times regardless of where you are in the world.
Our URL scanner uses a proprietary three-engine detection system: heuristic risk scoring that analyses URL structure for suspicious patterns, real-time active analysis that probes URLs to detect what they actually serve (including binary file analysis and malware family identification), and Google Safe Browsing, one of the world's largest threat databases.
For file scanning, we compute cryptographic hashes client-side using the Web Crypto API and check them against our curated database of known malware signatures. Your files never leave your browser. Only the hash is sent for lookup, ensuring complete privacy.
Our threat intelligence combines Google Safe Browsing, one of the world's largest repositories of known phishing and malware URLs, with our own proprietary heuristic analysis engine. These are the same types of data sources used by professional security operations centres worldwide.
Why ScanTotal Exists
Cybercrime is growing every year. Phishing attacks, scam websites, malware, and online fraud cost individuals and businesses billions of dollars annually. The people most affected are often those with the least technical knowledge: older adults, students, small business owners, and everyday internet users who just want to browse safely.
Professional cybersecurity tools exist, but they're designed for IT teams and security analysts. Regular people need something different: a tool that's instant, obvious, and requires zero expertise. That's the gap ScanTotal fills.
We're committed to continually improving our scanning capabilities, expanding our educational content, and making the internet a little safer for everyone who uses it.
Who's Behind ScanTotal
ScanTotal is built and operated by Kumari Rajapaksha, Founder and Lead Consultant, based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
